GETAWAY SPECIAL

GETAWAY SPECIAL is a work of electronic percussion music, inspired by Steve Reich’s Drumming, by the soundtrack to AKIRA by Geinoh Yamashirogumi, and by the work of Tom Jenkinson a.k.a. Squarepusher.

The title refers to a program run by NASA which allowed individuals & groups the chance to fly small experiments on board NASA Space Shuttles.

LUCY, THE DIAMOND STAR 13:48
Composition began on February 13th, 2012. On February 13th, 2004, The Harvard–Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics announced the discovery of the universe's largest known diamond, white dwarf star BPM 37093. Astronomers named this star "Lucy" after The Beatles' song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".

LOBSTER MECHANIST 6:50
Composition began on March 18th, 2014. On March 18, 1965, Cosmonaut Alexey Leonov left his spacecraft Voskhod 2 for 12 minutes, marking the first spacewalk in recorded history. The title is a reference to the work of author Bruce Sterling.

SATURNIAN FLYBY 7:35
Composition began on November 12, 2017. On November 12th 1980, The NASA space probe Voyager I made its closest approach to Saturn and took the first images of its rings.
